Relocating yourself and your family to a foreign country can be an exciting and daunting prospect. There are numerous factors you should consider before progressing down the path to find a role in a different country.

The TRC Group has extensive experience of relocating candidates to and from Australia and the wider Asia Pacific region. Your consultant will be able to assist you in this move and will help to make the move as stress free as possible. However, to get you started, here are a few of the basics you should consider before applying for a role in a foreign country.

Below is a check list we use to determine prospective candidates for our clients as this will help us / you establish the viability of relocating:

Have you researched income tax rates for the country you're considering? (Tax tables can be obtained from Government websites)


Have you researched local salary ranges for roles that suit your skill set? Will you be able to live comfortably on this salary?
Have you thoroughly researched the local housing market?
 
a) rental costs
b) house prices
Have you discussed relocating with your partner? Is your partner completely behind the idea?
Would relocating involve your partner giving up a job or stalling a career?
Have you factored only one income for an initial period into your budget?
Are you and your partner both eligible to work in the country of destination?
Is your partner very dependent on a support network in current country?
Have you looked into the cost of child care or maids?
Have you looked into the cost of school fees and education for your children?
Have you researched international schools in the destination country?
Have you looked at a cost of living comparison between your prospective country and your current home?
Have you researched, for the country you are considering, such things as:
 
Political environment
Cultural norms
Standard of living
Average temperatures and seasonal variations
Pollution
Personal safety and crime levels
  Are you and your family comfortable with these?


Have you calculated, after considering all the costs involved, your net cash surplus? Will this be enough for you and your family to live comfortably?
